Nurse Practitioner II [CVS NP # 4] Sacramento, CA
This is a TPMG position that reports to the Cardiovascular Service Program Manager. This postion supports the Sacramento Area Cardiac Surgery Progam. The position will work closely with the The Cardiovascular Services Manager, Director and Chief of CV Surgery, the CV Surgeons, CV Anesthesiologists, and members undergoing CV surgery to provide multidisciplinary care of patients undergoing CV Surgery across the continuum of care. May be required to support Cardiac Interventional Program as needed. Proven ability to work with physicians, members, and other medical center personnel both within KP and at contracted facilities. Must be willing and able to travel between facilities.
Essential Functions:
- Practices under the standard procedure established for the NP role consistent with Kaiser Permanente policy and in accordance with requirement set forth by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
- Conducts age appropriate assessments of patients, including history taking and physical examination consistent with department protocol.
- Performs assessment/data collection in an on-going systematic manner, focusing on physiologic, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual and cognitive status; patient/family education, family involvement and patient advocacy.
- Participates with physicians and other clinicians in the department to assure effective patient care consistent with quality indicators for patients cared for in the designated service.
- Consults with supervising physician or other clinicians as dictated by patient need and assessment findings.
- Reviews medical record for follow up or ordering of diagnostic studies under established protocols.
- Manages health problems of patients in accordance with established protocols and/or consultation with supervising physician.
- Establishes and maintains communication with other health care providers and departments to ensure operational efficiency and effectiveness and to promote consistency and continuity of care.
- Maintains appropriate documentation.
- Establishes effective working relationships with members of the health care team, patients, and families. Acknowledges staff rights and cultural and ethical beliefs.
- Delegates appropriately and coordinates duties/activities of health care team members. Evaluates effectiveness of care given by team members.
- Utilizes effective communication methods and skills, following lines of authority, as appropriate.
- Demonstrates knowledge of and applies safety principles as identified by the institution. Performs efficiently in emergency situations following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons, and documenting events.
- Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for own professional practice. Participates regularly in staff development activities for unit and department personnel. Demonstrates knowledge of legal issues, including patient confidentiality and risk management in all aspects of patient care and unit functioning.
- Participates in unit and department Performance Improvement activities. Participates in nursing research activities as requested. Identifies and solves problems effectively.
- Demonstrates a service philosophy in all interactions with patients, families, and all members of the health care team.
- Demonstrates proficiency in the use of computers and telecommunication modalities in documenting, tracking and conveying information.
- If practicing in a specialty role, fulfills the expectations established for the particular role.

Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- Master of Science degree in nursing.
- Current Registered Nurse and Nurse Practioner License, DEA to Furnish Pharmaceuticals
- Current ACLS Certification
- CV Surgery/Interventional Cardiology Case Log (Required)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years experience as NP in CV Surgery.
- Experience with Endovascular Vein Harvesting (EVH)
- Ability to:
- Conduct daily rounds and document patient care orders
- Perform evaluative consults with physicians & other health care providers
- Order & evaluate laboratory reports & radiology studies
- Manage surgical problems within scope of practice
- Writes orders for medication and treatments, under guidelines of licensure.
- Perform therapeutic procedures as outlined in the Delineation of Privileges
- Ability to make independent decisions following California Laws & Regulations.
- Highest level of customer focused service with patients, members, physicians, and staff.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Ability to carry out all functional & environmental requirements as outlined in the job description. Prolonged standing, walking, and use of hands with ability to lift and move patients.

- Must be able to work independently, displaying initiative and appropriate judgment and become a team member of the Cardiac Surgery team in providing a collaborative approach to patient care.
Schedule:
May be required to work across multi-medical centers. May be required to take call.
